Several people have asked me how I found Reiki. To be perfectly honest – I’m not really sure. I think Reiki found me. As soon as I heard about it, I knew it was something I had to do. It felt like a calling, of sorts. And believe me, for this girl – a girl who never really quite knew what she wanted to do with her life for a living – it felt like coming ‘home’ in a way.
The evening after my first Reiki class, I felt so high and happy that I had discovered this beautiful form of energy healing. Something about it just felt natural – like I’d known how to do it all along, but the attunement and training I received from my teacher was affirming. A couple of months later I went back to become attuned to Level 2 Usui Reiki. Now in October I will be training to become a Reiki Master so I can teach Reiki in addition to giving treatments.
Feeling confident about giving Reiki treatments has taken a while. In the beginning, I wasn’t sure I was doing it ‘right’. I wasn’t sure this was something I could do to make a living. I didn’t have faith in myself. I trusted in the energy, just not myself. But as time goes by, I learned that there is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way – it just is. And I also know that if you want to do something, you can make it happen.
In the past little while I’ve noticed an increase in requests from friends and family for Reiki treatments. I am not sure if it is because I talk about it and want to share it more or if the world just needs more organic healing. I suspect it is a bit of both.
So what is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese word – Rei means universal transcendental spirit and Ki means life energy. Thus the word carries the sense of universal life energy. The universe is filled with this invisible life energy and life and health of all living beings is sustained by it.
Reiki is both powerful and gentle. Often when energy levels are low or blocked, the immune system is weakened and we are more susceptible to illness within the body. I’m a firm believer that many physical illnesses are caused by emotional pain/trauma and issues we carry around on a daily basis and do not work through. The source of illness is generally found in the deep unconscious level. The amazing thing about Reiki is that it works on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels, treating both the cause and effect of disease – going to exactly where it is needed during a Reiki treatment. This is true for both in-person and distance treatments.
I’m putting this out there for the world (or my readers) to see: my goal is to open up my own Reiki practice (out of my home) and teach others within the next year. I’m currently taking suggestions for a name for my home business. I need a creative person to come up with something that doesn’t sound too hokey yet draws people in and makes them feel comfortable. Suggestions?
And for anyone interested in Reiki – whether it be asking questions, receiving a treatment or curious about learning it for themselves, I want to hear from you! I would encourage anyone and everyone to learn more about the power of Reiki and the benefits of energy medicine.
