Discover your soul type

in Personal Growth, Spirituality

When you were born, you weren’t born just a blank slate. Anyone who has spent any time with a baby knows this simply isn’t true. Babies are born with a personality. You can often even tell when they’re in utero what kind of person your little one will be.  Some babies are happy, placid and love everyone. Others don’t seem to stop fussing until they are sleeping (which is a feat in and of itself!).

We are all born with soul contracts, distinct personalities and temperaments. As we grow, these develop and become even stronger and more evident. Your soul type is chosen as part of the life plan your soul created before you were even born. It is the biggest influence on who you are, what you will do with your life and how you will spend your time.

I first heard about Soul Types when I read Ainslie MacLeod’s book The Instruction.

The book helped me to understand a bit more about myself. When I took the quiz, it just reaffirmed what I already knew about myself. (I’m a spiritualist/caregiver soul type.) Macleod says

Understanding your soul type will allow you to move forward with far greater self-confidence, making choices in your career and relationships that support the person you really are. It will help you to create a happier and more fulfilling life. And it will enable you to counter criticism with a heartfelt, “That’s just the way I am.”

The Soul Types

Soul Type Focus Traits
Helper Service Dedication, stoicism
Caregiver Nurturing Empathy, loyalty
Educator Teaching Erudition, eloquence
Thinker Knowledge Restraint, rationality
Creator Creativity Sensitivity, idealism
Performer Communication Passion, playfulness
Hunter Activity Determination, practicality
Leader Authority Charisma, wisdom
Spiritualist Improvement Compassion, spirituality
Transformer Unity Inspiration, love
Excerpted from The Instruction by Ainslie MacLeod

You can take the quiz here: Discover your soul type.

Post your results here! I’d love to hear what soul type readers are. I suspect many of you are spiritualists given the nature of this blog, though I could be wrong!

I’m a Caregiver, Linds! Surprised?

Jean September 10, 2010 at 10:07 pm

Caregiver…yep did that most of my life, even though I never had children of my own, and actually could use someone to help me now, I still try to do for myself, if I can't well it didn't need to be done anyhow. No kids except fur children, and they find me, as do the mentally ill, and a step son who is not fond of me.
As an artist, it surprised me it didn't come up Creative or even Spiritual because I am both. But I think of them as co-existing.

You probably scored pretty high in Creative and Spiritual though, right? I do think they are co-existing and even though we rate ‘higher’ for one in particular, other types are certainly ‘us’ as well.

I’m a spiritualist/caregiver soul type too. This book sounds really interesting, I’m going to put it on my “To Read” list. Thanks.

Let me know if you like it, Heather!

…my soul type is a THINKER..!

Lindsay September 16, 2011 at 2:31 pm

Well, that’s a good thing! 🙂

Sarah October 10, 2011 at 4:29 pm

I’m a Thinker, but others are close behind… The description is about right as I’m considering whether I’ve made the right choice to become a secondary school teacher or whether I should have gone further to become a university professor!

Lindsay October 11, 2011 at 10:13 am

Hey Sarah! That’s a tough one…maybe you could teach secondary school for a while and then if you’re feeling the pull towards being a professor, you can always go back to school in order to do that (you might be able to take evening classes so you can go to school and teach at the same time). Thanks for commenting!

I tend to score very close to spiritualist/creator, which seem quite accurate considering I’m highly intuitive and an artist.

About 50-50 thinker/helper

Hey! Do you know if they make any plugins to help
with SEO? I’m trying to get my blog to rank
for some targeted keywords but I’m not seeing very good
success. If you know of any please share.
Many thanks!
