Last night I had a dream that involved me and a coworker (who told me she also dreamt of the ocean last night after I relayed my dream to her – a sign of connection). In this dream my coworker and I were sitting in the passenger side of a car – the side that was facing the ocean. We were sitting quietly – peacefully enjoying the waves lapping against the wheels. Every once in a while a huge wave would engulf the car and with each wave, a feeling of serenity would wash over me. During one of these engulfing waves, a thought came to me: “Just like each drop of the ocean needs the other drops to be this great and powerful, each human being on this planet needs other people in order to feel whole and do great things.”
We all have days when we feel lonely. We feel like no one understands what we’re going through and we feel very isolated from the world – not even those who are closest to us in our day-to-day lives. However, the very idea of loneliness comes from the false notion that we are separate and isolated parts in a world filled with other separate, isolated parts. The truth is, we can no more be separate from our world and other people than a drop in the ocean can be from the rest of the drops.
Everything we do has an effect on the people around us. Our thoughts carry a power that others can feel. On a very subtle level, when we share space with another person we pick up on their energy, their mood. For me, it is very easy to figure out what kind of mood someone is in just by walking past them – I can feel the energy emanating from their space. Moods and feelings are indeed contagious, even when we don’t mean for them to be.
It is inevitable that we are affected by and equally influence those around us. This is proof enough that we are never alone. Don’t be afraid to reach out to a fellow human being in your time of need or emotional despair. Share your joy when you have it – it will spread. Try to carry a positive energy around you whenever possible. Love all you encounter and share kindness with friends, family, lovers and strangers alike. When you give, you receive.
The Law of Attraction states that like attracts like. This is indeed true, so why not try to be the positive kind of like that positively impacts all you encounter? We are all connected. When we band together, like drops of the ocean that are together, we hold infinite power, wisdom and love.
