Me & my first baby – the day she was born
When does the soul enter our bodies? Is it at conception? Birth? Shortly thereafter? This is a question I’ve pondered for a while and thought I’d take to doing some research to find out what the consensus is.
In the book Journey of Souls: Case Studies of Life Between Lives, author Michael Newton says:
At some point before birth, the soul will carefully touch and join with the impressionable, developing brain of a baby…Depending upon the inclinations of the particular soul involved, the connection may be early or late in the mother’s pregnancy. I have had cases where souls timed their arrival at the last minute during delivery, but this is unusual. My findings show even those souls who join the baby early seem to do a lot of traveling outside the mother’s womb during her term.
Souls join their assigned hosts in the womb of the baby’s mother sometime after the third month of pregnancy so they will have a sufficiently evolved brain to work with before term…After birth, an amnesiac memory block sets in and souls meld their immortal character with the temporary human mind to produce a combination of traits for a new personality.
The channeled book Seth Speaks: Eternal Validity of the Soul says:
Various methods of entry are adopted by souls. If there is a strong relationship between the parents and the child-to-be, then the personality may enter at the point of conception if he is extremely anxious to rejoin them. Even here, however, large portions of self-awareness continue to operate in the between-life dimension.
We all choose our parents. Long before we were ever born, we made soul agreements with them about teaching each other lessons, growing, learning and loving together. In my experience, I’ve done readings for people whose babies have come through but have said they wouldn’t be joining their parents right away. So, the soul is committed, but doesn’t usually enter the body at conception.
Anyone who’s ever been pregnant before can attest that their baby has personality traits (easy-going, demanding, likes to sprawl out) even before they are born. Moms who have been pregnant twice or more can attest to the fact that their babies have different personalities, even in utero. That, to me, indicates that the soul spends time with his/her mom and family during the pregnancy, but also spends time on the “other side”. By the third trimester, the baby’s soul spends more and more time in its body, and at birth it is fully committed and here in all physical density.

Wondering why I care about this subject? I am pregnant and due to have my baby on or around February 10, 2013. The 1st trimester has been equal parts kind and horrible to me. I’ve been exhausted, nauseas, moody, joyous, elated and calmer than I’ve ever felt. I carry a sense of inner peace that I’ve never felt before.

According to the Cayce Readings, the thoughts and activities of the parents during pregnancy determine the personality of the soul who chooses you. I believe the soul does not enter the body until the first breath, but does “hang around” the parents during and even before conception. My younger son had been with me since I had been a child!

Now that’s a very interesting theory. I love Edgar Cayce. Makes me wanna make sure all my thoughts and activities are awesome during the pregnancy so the personality is a good one!

I think souls join that small body within three, four months- my two children were night and day…. One jumpy, one calm. One hamburgers, one fish.
I wonder if food inclinations have anything to do with that soul and what was – before? What are you craving? What can you not tolerate?

I’m really looking forward to teaching this little one Reiki right from the start. I know kids can have awesome connections and healing powers because they’re not as ‘removed’ from the other side as we are!

Congratulations! I am guessing a girl, born Feb. 12 at 7am, weighing 7 lbs. 3 oz.
I have read both of the books that you referenced as to when the soul enters the body. From my own personal intuition and experience, I don’t know.
But, I have an extremely gifted psychic friend who has worked in the medical field who has seen babies born with their little souls sitting by them, with a little cord attaching the soul to the body. She told me that sometimes when the newborn is going to have a big physical challenge, the soul may wait to join the body until the challenge is resolved.
When her own son was born, his soul entered his body the moment he shot out of mom, into the world. (She can tell this sort of thing; I can’t).

February 12th seems like a nice day to be born.
I think she’s taking a break from blogging to do some work on herself right now. She does have several amazing stories to tell. And I believe she has written down her story, and one day, I hope, will have it perfected and published.

The soul enters the body at the conception.
I’ll say a girl born on the due date (cause we don’t like AFTER!) and (my only semi-intuitive hit) 4:03am. 6 pounds 4 oz. Whenever it happens, I’ll wish you an easy delivery and and a healthy baby
I have no idea about the soul entrance but I will say I am SURE they are around a lot the last couple of months unless their bodies just spontaneously shake, rattle and roll. Which I seriously doubt
Mine displayed their individual preferences throughout the last trimester. Fred even banged to get out when we went to a very loud movie right before he was born, and he has sensory issues around extremely loud noises so I’d say he was in there protesting

as for souls entering I hadn’t given it alot of thought..
and for the amount of time that I leave my body.. some nights I let my soul out to wander like one puts out a cat for the night… it feels awesome inside this shell but knows it is much more than this…
I feel that I chose to even come before I was concieved… like something in my saw the future of the family I came into and chose to come in and add something, and change something.

I am not sure on the soul/body issue. Watching the pregnancy waiting for my granddaughter to arrive… she most definitely was showing presonality about 5 or 6 months along. Feisty, kicking the snot out of her mom, absolutely did not like anything pushing in to her world so to speak…would kick the stethoscope off every time etc.
She’s an easy, happy baby but very active and fights sleep flinging her head/arms/legs. Definitely a little Dragon baby

Gemini girls are fun! My niece is 5 years old and she’s a Gemini. She’s always been very verbal/ahead of the curve, entertaining and had a sharp wit! I think Geminis are good communicators!

As far as when a soul enters the body, I think they jump in and out early on during the pregnancy, spending more and more time with you the closer you get to your due date.

What an exciting time in your life! I certainly hope that your baby doesn’t wait to arrive much later than your due date (my son really took his time to be born) but I am going to guess that you have a son on February 12th at 3:33 AM and that your baby weighs 8 pounds.

Thanks, Kathleen! Yeah – the call of the egg keeps pulling me to it! That and fresh fruit. I’d say those are pretty good cravings to have! My midwife says we don’t need to keep track of my weight this pregnancy, so I’m opting out. That way I can eat as many egg salad sandwiches as I want without feeling guilty about weight gain!

Yes, I was told to get a hobby…then I saw “My Fake Baby” on BBC and it was ON!! I love making them! My office looks like a nursery now, ha ha. Sometimes my daughter will bring one with us to the store and people always say something about the cute little baby and we love to see their faces when we tell them its a doll!!
When my sister and I were little, we had a couple baby dolls that looked very real. I remember we used to take them to the mall/grocery store with our mom and people would stop us and ask how old the baby twins were! I guess you guys get the same thing with your dolls! Hilarious!

I will be as objective as possible here, but I agree with this take from Mother Mirra Alfassa: “… there is a stupendous difference between conceiving a child deliberately, with a conscious aspiration, a call to the invisible world and a spiritual ardour, and conceiving a child by accident and without intending to have it, and sometimes even without wanting it at all. I do believe vehemently that the soul’s journey is highly individual, but according to my collection reading the sages, these are times in which old souls reincarnate for a last stay on Earth, in high percentages. Which means, many of these may be very much present in the physical realm very early after conception -and yet be able to keep their connections with the spiritual through life.
When my beloved Saffy cat died by accident, before expected, a vigil candle burned through and out for seven days. I learned (two months after) that that day, when the candle burnt, Saffee was born -who was meant to be my new kitty friend. All the references I was finding those days pointed out at the fact that right at that time there was a soul transfer, and I was simply returned (in a way) that which was still meant to be with me.
I am not sure that things work with such synchronism when it comes to human pregnancies and births, but I have a feeling that they do:-)
I have no clue at this point of whether you will have a boy or a girl, but my feelings are that your child[ren] will be highly talented, healthy, and loving.

At this point I’m leaning more towards ‘girl’, but lots of people here seem to be guessing boy. So I guess only time will tell!
