What do you get when you put together an Intuitive Healer and a Psychic Teacher? A collaboration between A Clear Sign and The Daily Awe – and a psychic advice column.

Thanks to everyone who wrote in to suggest a name for our column! The consensus was that Two Intuitives wins!

Question of the month: When you are doing an Intuitive Reading for someone, do you see auras? How do you know what the aura means? Any advice for how to start seeing them since I can’t?

One morning while I was standing in line for my coffee – just like I (used to) do every morning – I was entertained by a baby girl who was about 6 months old. She was looking at me and smiling and so, of course, I was smiling back and trying to engage her. I noticed she was looking at me but seemed to be focusing above my head. I’m pretty darn sure she was looking at my aura. Believe me, I had the thought that she was looking at the guy behind me. But there wasn’t anyone behind me.We often say babies can always tell who is safe and who isn’t – right away their “spidey senses” go off. I’m sure you know some people who are baby magnets – they’re good people, aren’t they? Baby repellants, on the other hand…not so much. It is my belief that we are all born with the ability to see auras and in fact, do see them during at least the first year of our lives. Too bad we don’t remember how to do it, right? Somewhere along the line, we stop seeing them. We grow up and lose our innocence and with that, our memory of where we came from. And for most of us, our ability to see auras. The good news is, you probably already feel them. You can them again with a little practice, too.I began seeing auras when I started practicing Reiki. Nearly every time I was giving a Reiki treatment to someone, I would see radiant colors – each one as unique as the person I was giving Reiki to. I asked my teacher if it was “normal” to see colors during Reiki treatments, and she informed me that I was likely seeing the auras of the individuals I was giving a treatment to. I’ve since learned to hone my skills so I can see and/or sense each chakra when doing an aura reading or chakra scan. The good news is, you don’t need to be psychic in order to do this.Chances are, you already sense people’s auras around you. That’s just not what we call it. Like Julie, I can often feel someone’s aura. It’s like when you meet your new coworker Bob and you just know right away he’s nothing but trouble or an asshole. Yep, you’re sensing Bob’s aura, even if you can’t see the colors.Reading auras isn’t only about seeing colors: it’s about interpreting a person’s energy field in whatever way you do that most naturally. You might feel it. You might see it. You might get a message from someone’s guides or angels about it. There is no right or wrong way. With practice, I’ve trained myself to see auras when giving readings or when asked to scan someone’s aura to figure out what’s going on. If you know me in “real life”, not to worry: this isn’t something I walk doing on a daily basis to anyone and everyone – that would be exhausting, not to mention an invasion of your privacy. I promise I don’t do it unless you’ve asked.

Reading copious articles on how to read auras won’t do as much for you as actually practicing will. As with nearly anything, we need to practice, practice, practice!

Recently on my Facebook page we had a discussion about aura photographs. I asked people to send in their photos since I was curious if the auras captured would be anything like the way I “see” them in my mind’s eye when I do intuitive readings. The answer was – yes and no.I never have intentionally tried to see auras with my physical eyes although I understand it can be quite easy to do. I do sometimes see shimmering around people but that’s about it.To me, auras are “felt” as your personal space. Remember when you were a kid in school and when anyone got too close in the line they would say to put your arm out to full length and that’s how far apart you should be from one another? That’s the aura that you sensed. When someone gets too close and it makes you uncomfortable even though they aren’t touching you – that’s the aura you’re sensing. What do they look like? Well, whether or not you see the color actually around someone or just see a color in front of you in your mind’s eye, that’s still the aura. Sometimes it is crystal clear. It may be more than one color. It may have a dot or spots in it. Parts or all of it may be waving or moving, flashing at you. You may see “events” happen within the color (such as lightning bolts or flashes of what looks like electricity). If the colors are clear and strong that is typically a positive sign. Sometimes they vibrate or move around in some way – often that can mean “pay attention to this body part” if they are only “acting up” in one area. If they are muted or not the typical “clear, bright” colors you may become used to seeing, then pay attention because that means something. As an example, I often get a round, orange image come across my eyelids, like the sun during a sunset, and it has a single red dot in it. Other times I see purple lightning (which means the person is psychic, in my own internal intuitive vocabulary I have established with my guides).

Sometimes I see a brown or muddy “aura” – it actually looks like the person is sitting in mud. It appears to be thick and actually have a texture. Technically that’s not an aura per se, but if you ask for an aura and you get a unique imagery like that, you’ll find that once you see it and discover what it means in one person, that’s your cue the next time it comes around. In this case (for me) this means the person is in a depression.

I’ve seen that some artists also give impressions of auras – they draw them. What I always find fascinating is the interpretation of what the color or patterns mean. When I viewed the images of the aura photographs I was surprised to hear what the individual was told they meant. I wasn’t trying to read the person at the time, but it struck me a fairly far out interpretation. I don’t know about you, but in my view of the world I stick to what I hope is helpful guidance – those things we can do something about, the neutral or positive aspects. I would not feel comfortable with someone telling me that an aura color or pattern means something in particular about a past life or is an indicator of future trouble to come, unspecified.

If you are working on your intuitive development and don’t see auras but wish to know what they are, for the sake of archetype significance or to reference the color for a relevant meaning, then simply ask the person’s guides or angels to tell it or show it to you. You don’t have to “see it” (literally) to understand it.

I see auras too, and have recently started offering readings through my blog and Facebook page. I have synesthesia, which means I see all letters and numbers in specific colors too, and for some reason this seems to extend to being able to read people’s auras and chakras intuitively as well. I wasn’t even aware that I could do this until a couple of years ago, when I stumbled across it quite by accident.

I typically see auras in the standard chakra colors, although there are other colors that show up as well, and I’m still figuring out what some of them mean as they appear for various clients. I do find that my readings often match up with Kirlian aura photos, if the client happens to have had one done in the past.

This makes me think that there may really be something scientifically valid to the whole thing, which is surprising, because I was never even a big believer in auras and chakras before I started reading them myself! Funny, huh? 🙂

I would often comment that an ex-coworker/friend of mine- glowed. Nobody questioned what I meant by that and I never thought any more about it either- which seems odd to me now now that I think about it. Looking at Renaissance paintings several years later, I realized many of the central figures had the same (although 2-D rather than 3-D) ‘glow.’ Other than mindfullness on my part, how do you decipher a gift from a common experience? Especially a gift you’ve had since birth?

Is it possible that the capacity of seeing auras intensifies and then fades or plainly disappears at times?? I recall that under certain circumstances in which I was isolated from people and civilization for extended periods of time (such as venturing on my own in South American jungles for 8 days), I was seeing what I consider to be auras around trees… At first I thought something was wrong with my eyesight, but then I realized that when walking familiar paths and coming close to familiar trees I was, as well, feeling the distinctive energy of that tree -a gust of fresh emotional energy, something akin to meeting a friend in the street, when they call your name as you were unaware of their presence. By the time I returned to the city it all seemed unreal. A couple of years after though, when moving to a different city (and surviving an alienating job) I started to have the same perception when going for night runs at the parks… Currently my powers are nil:-(
